Sobre nosotros

In both Atlanta, Georgia, and the metropolitan area of Washington, D.C., the issue of underprivileged and unhoused individuals persists with unique nuances and challenges in each region.

In Atlanta, poverty and homelessness have been persistent challenges for decades. According to the Atlanta Regional Commission, approximately 3,200 individuals experience homelessness on any given night in the city. Factors such as lack of affordable housing, unemployment, mental health issues, and substance abuse contribute to this problem. The city has seen a 34% increase in homelessness over the past decade, highlighting the urgency of addressing this issue.

Similarly, in the metropolitan area of Washington, D.C., homelessness is a significant concern. According to the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments, there were approximately 11,000 homeless individuals in the region as of the latest 2024 count. High housing costs, a competitive job market, and systemic issues like racial inequality contribute to the challenges faced by those experiencing homelessness in the area.

Both Atlanta and the metro DC area have implemented various rehabilitation efforts aimed at addressing homelessness and providing second chances to those in need. These efforts often include:

Shelter Programs: Providing temporary housing and basic amenities to individuals experiencing homelessness, offering a safe space while they work towards more stable housing options.

Employment Training: Offering job training programs and employment assistance to help individuals gain skills and secure stable employment opportunities.

Mental Health Services: Providing access to mental health resources and counseling to address underlying issues contributing to homelessness, such as trauma or substance abuse.

Substance Abuse Treatment: Offering support and resources for individuals struggling with addiction, including rehabilitation programs and access to healthcare services.

Affordable Housing Initiatives: Implementing policies and programs aimed at increasing the availability of affordable housing options for low-income individuals and families.

We here at First Real Chance Corp. aim to significantly impact the lives of underprivileged and unhoused individuals by providing them with the support and resources needed to reintegrate into society successfully. We are building our program strategically to be able to offer a combination of housing assistance, job training, counseling, and support services tailored to the unique needs of each individual.

We are called First Real Chance to distinguish ourselves from other second chance programs. We like to think we are giving people their first REAL chance at creating a successful life. To give someone their first chance is to provide them with the information and to hope that they follow the guidance given. First REAL Chance Corp. is designed to provide resources that are tailored to meet each individuals means as well as make effort to sustain their success. Even when you graduate out of needing our program, you are a lifetime member, this is more than a center for resources, this is a family.

By providing our members there first REAL chance, our program is designed to empower individuals to break the cycle of homelessness and poverty, enabling them to become self-sufficient members of their communities. Additionally, we contribute to reducing recidivism rates and alleviating the strain on social services and emergency resources.

While homelessness and poverty remain significant challenges in both Atlanta, GA, and the metro DC area, rehabilitation efforts and Second Chance Programs such as First Real Chance Corp. offer hope for individuals seeking to rebuild their lives. By addressing the root causes of homelessness and providing comprehensive support, these initiatives play a crucial role in creating a more equitable and compassionate society.
